Typing Greek letters
Creating a fresh Greek document
To create a Greek document, you must open a blank document based on the Greek Template as follows:
| 1. | Left-click your mouse on File/New. |
| 2. | If you are using Word ’95, Word ’97 or Word 2000, you will be shown a set of available templates, one of which should be the Greek Template (Greek.dot, Greek97.dot or Greek2000.dot). Left-click on the Greek Template and click the OK button. If you are using Word XP or later, you will probably see a window open at the right of your screen. If you click on General Templates, you will see the range of available templates as explained above. Left-click on the Greek Template and click the OK button. |
| 3. | A blank document will appear. At the top of your screen you will see a the Greek Toolbar featuring various accents, breathings, etc. You are now ready to begin typing ancient Greek |
Typing in Greek
Typing most Greek letters is straightforward because most correspond with the Roman letters on your keyboard. For example, tapping the letter “a” on the keyboard types an alpha and so on. For more exotic Greek letters, the following rules applies:
